While Tamsyn and Kaelani Goolagong earned their stripes and surged into the Australian Indigenous Budgies netball squad with a strong performance for NSW Echidnas at the Australian Indigenous Schoolgirls Netball Championships (see story below), siblings Rasheed and Latrell were forging their own path in the sport.

The duo, along with fellow Wagga players Lochie Walford and Joey Cama, participated in the NSW boys netball trials at Sydney’s Olympic Park over the weekend.
Latrell, who last year represented Brothers Wagga in Group Nine’s Sullivan Cup side, and the younger Rasheed duked it out with aplomb at the trials with the former making his mark as a goal defence.
Rasheed found plenty of success in the centre role while Lochie (goal keeper) and Joey (wing defence) also caught the eyes of selectors during the trials.
Now, all four will find themselves following Tamsyn and Kaelani’s footsteps towards national duties after being named in the NSW under 17 boys side.
“It’s pretty amazing that everyone got through, especially with the girls doing so well as well,” mum Bettina Goolagong said.
The boys played alongside the girls in local mixed competitions last year but will get the chance to surge into the next stage this coming April, when they represent NSW at the 2019 Australian men's and mixed netball championships.
The event is hosted down in Melbourne over April 21-27 – the same weekend Tamsyn and Kaelani will represent Budgies on the Gold Coast.
It’s shaping up to be a hectic seven days for the prodigious netballing family.
“I’ll be taking the girls down and the boys will go down with their dad – it’s going to be busy,” Goolagong said.
