Tony Phelps, environmental management team leader, said they are doing a walk along the levee bank and through the river red gum forests.
“We’ll look at some of the native vegetation and some of the habitats,” he said.
Council environmental education officer Sam Parsell said they will be looking at their nesting boxes and some of the natural hollows as well.
“We’ll have our camera ready so we can try and have a peek in them,” she said. “We’ll be looking at natural and man-made habitats, how they are formed and what the community can do to help them.”
Mr Phelps said tours down at the wetlands have been well-received by the community and now they want to extend.
“There’s native vegetation just five to 10 minutes from your home,” he said. “It is very and interesting and complex and we want to show the community.”
The tour starts from 9am on Wednesday at the playground on Lonergan Place. Ms Parsell said to bring enclosed shoes, a hat and water bottle, but they will also be bringing a refill station for people to top up on water.
“The tour goes for two hours [one-way] and it is an easy walk, but there are some steps," she said. “They will head to the Visitor Information Centre and we will be heading back to our cars so they are welcome to do that with us.”
Ms Parsell said to keep an eye on Sustainable Wagga Wagga’s Facebook page for more tours.
