More than 40 divers made a splash over the two-day event across 15 different events, including 1m springboard, 3m springboard and platform.
Wagga junior Philomena Grigg was a standout across the championships, competing in five events for a return of two gold medals and a bronze.
The youngster opened her account on Saturday with a win in the under 12/13 girls 3m springboard, registering a score of 189.85, before picking up another gold medal in the under 12/13 girls 1m springboard.
I was happy with how they all went and how the event went too, especially given it was so busy and we had so many people coming from across the state.
- Wagga Diving Club president Alison Grigg
Philomena’s score of 188.10 was good enough to see her finish ahead of fellow Wagga diver Charlotte Seghers, who claimed second place with a score of 137.15, however, the pair would go on to provide one of Wagga’s championship highlights with a bronze medal effort in the under 13s synchronised springboard.
The girls held second place after completing two difficult dives in their opening two rounds but just fell short of silver in the end with a cumulative score of 131.94.
Wagga Diving Club president Alison Grigg was very proud of her daughter’s efforts and results from all Wagga juniors over the weekend.
“She (Philomena) ended up doing really well and was awarded most improved country diver during the awards night as well. I was happy with how they (Wagga Diving Club juniors) all went and how the event went too, especially given it was so busy and we had so many people coming from across the state,” Grigg said.
Wagga Diving Club junior Ben Hall was another standout, scoring 181.55 in the under 14/15 boys 1m springboard to finish just behind guest diver Zachariah Gindy (219.70), while young Samuel Seghers (50.20) impressed with a third-placed effort in the boys pathways event.
Five Wagga Diving Club juniors participated in the girls pathways event with Emily Ryan clinching second place with an impressive score of 143.65.
Charlotte Seghers (64.70) and Olivia Maclennan (61.15) placed 10th and 11th respectively while Amity McLennan (56.60) and Bella Shumack (37.90) finished up in 14th and 15th.
The NSW Open and Age Championships will be held in Sydney on March 23-24.
