Jayne Lewis and Danielle Allen are behind Melbourne-based Two Birds Brewing and “jumped at the chance” to offer their products in Wagga.
Ms Lewis said they have been operating for eight years and are best known for their “unique” Taco Beer.
“It’s a beer we brew that has corn, coriander leaf and lime peel in it and so it’s really fresh and zesty with a great Mexican flavour,” she said.
“I guess we’ve seen a lot of changes in the industry and we make beers that have a little bit of fun and interest to them.”
Thirsty Crow and the Two Birds experimented with local produce to create a strawberry and rhubarb sour beer.
“For this we’re actually using yoghurt to make the beer sour and I’ve done sour beers before but I have never used yoghurt to make it sour, so it’ll be interesting to see the process and learn a little bit,” Ms Lewis told The Daily Advertiser prior to the event.
“We’ll be using local produce too which is something that I’m really passionate about.”
Thirsty Crow’s marketing and event’s assistant Katie Galvin said last night brought a “great turn-out”, with about 100 people attending to support a female-inspired event.
“Thirsty Crow’s owner Craig has known Jayne for a while through their brewing careers and a company inspired by two female brewers, we wanted to do something for the ladies,” Ms Galvin said.
“They also brewed a collaboration beer of strawberries from Bidgee Strawberries and Cream, as well as rhubarb from Mate’s Gully and malt from Leeton.
“The purpose of this was to learn new things from each other as Craig has never brewed a sour beer and we also supported the Wagga Women’s Health Centre to make it a female-inspired event.”
An estimated 80 kilograms of strawberries were used and Ms Galvin said the sour beer will be released on International Women’s Day, March 8.
