A car fire on the Olympic Highway near Kapooka has caused the destruction of 12 hectares of grassland this afternoon.

At least seven crews from the Rural Fire Service and Turvey Park Fire Station descended on the stretch of ground on the way to Uranquinty after a silver Mitsubishi was set alight.
The fire began at about 2pm and was completely subdued by 4pm on Saturday.

Traffic has resumed through the area, with roadblocks and crews now gone.
It took two hours for crews to contain the blaze, and another hour for a tow truck to remove the burnt out vehicle.
High winds and scorching temperatures combined with the dry landscape turned into a perilous combination for firefighters.
This is now the second car fire this weekend, with a fire taking place near Moorong in the early hours of this morning.
Overnight, a family home in Mount Austin was also destroyed by fire.
Police are continuing investigations into whether the recent spate of blazes have been deliberately lit.
