The former Australian champion and Tolland Cycle Club president has been agitating for the facility since 1999 and is hoping to see shovels in the ground before summer’s end.
“We really needed it yesterday or maybe tomorrow,” O’Hagan laughed.
“We are desperate for a criterium track because it’s so hard to get out onto the roads and clear stuff with traffic.
“It’s been a long time coming and we’re bloody excited to get one.”
Thankfully, Wagga City Council has good news on the development front.
Project delivery manager Rupesh Shah said council had received final confirmation of the funding and signed a deed of agreement with the NSW state government in December last year.
Now, council’s focus will turn to making the concept a reality.
“The contract for the survey work and concept design (the first stage of the project) was awarded in January 2019, following a procurement process undertaken late last year,” Shah said.
“Weather permitting, the company awarded the contract will commence surveying works at the Pomingalarna site this week, in preparation for the concept design phase.”
Shah confirmed that council would be conditionally be contributing $2.3m towards the project and outlined the three-step process to follow.
“The project will progress in three phases: survey and concept design, detailed design and construction.”
“Procurement for the detailed design and construction stages will start upon completion and approval of the functional design report, which is expected in April 2019.”
