A carer has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in his care and the production of child abuse material.

Earlier this month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 10-year-old had been sexually assaulted by her carer at a home in the Riverina.
Following investigations, a 79-year-old man was arrested by Riverina Police District detectives at about 3.40pm on Tuesday.
He was charged with four counts of child under 14 used in production of child abuse material, two counts of aggravated incite sexual act with a child aged 10 to 16, aggravated sexual intercourse with a child aged 10 to 14, sexual touching of a child aged 10 to 14, incite sexual act for production of child abuse material, and bestiality.

The man was refused bail to appear at local court today, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on March 27, 2019.
Alternate care arrangements have been made by the Department of Family and Community Services.
Police investigations are continuing.
