If the temperature does reach the 45-degree mark, it will set a new record for the hottest January day in the city.
The previous record of 44.8 degrees was set on January 23, 2001.
With health authorities and vets renewing their advice to be well-prepared for the hot weather, the Rural Fire Service’s Bradley Stewart also encouraging people to make sure they are prepared.
In Wagga on Tuesday, the fire danger was “very high”, but in other parts of NSW a total fire ban was in place.
For the staff of Wagga Nursery, the hot weather means early starts to take care of the plants and lots of additional watering. Staff have been starting as early as 6am to beat the heat.
The nursery’s Dianne Rawlings advises home gardeners to consider measures like mulching garden beds and water-saving crystals for indoor plants.
