Dikkenberg, 10, was at the ATP tour event to represent NSW Country at a junior level and played out of his skin against the top-ranked under 10s player in the state in his singles encounter.
Dikkenberg eventually went down in a tie-break with NSW Country going down in NSW City but it wasn’t all bad news with the young star treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sydney International facility.
“He got to walk through the players’ lounge (and) stringing room,” Elijah’s mum, Jane, said.
“He also met (Australian tennis star) Matt Ebden.”
The summer of tennis isn’t over for Dikkenberg, who is set to play on the biggest stage of all later this month.
The young gun will get the chance to play at the upcoming Australian Open and attend the finals.
