For anyone who wants to join a group that operates through the Riverina Regional Library, the opportunity to find some fellow book lovers is the annual Strays and Waifs event.
Jeannie Hazell from the Wagga City Library said the Strays and Waifs evening had been an annual fixture for the past dozen years.
“This is the time for people who want to join a book club to do it,” Ms Hazell said.
There are now 85 books clubs within the region library’s circulation area and 46 just in Wagga. Originally, there were just 16.
As each book club has no more than 10 members, the ‘waifs and strays’ night will help fill vacancies in existing groups as well as creating new ones.
Each of the clubs will be provided with 10 copies of 10 titles, chosen from a list of 250 options, along with audio copies and a DVD of any movie versions.
The library’s Christine Bolton said staff had recently overhauled the list of available and have added 40 new titles.
“Some of the book clubs have existed for so long, they had almost read everything.” Ms Bolton said.
The event will be at the Wagga City Library on Monday, January 21, from 5.30pm.
