King has signed with English championship club Featherstone for the upcoming season after he was released by Parramatta in September.
The former Kangaroos junior played 43 NRL games across seven injury-plagued seasons and decided it was time for a new challenge.
“Excited to officially sign with such a proud and famous club,” King tweeted.
“Can’t wait to join the team and meet all of the supporters.”
King, 27, spent time at Parramatta, North Queensland and St George-Illawarra throughout his NRL career.
He is no stranger to the United Kingdom, having been part of the Dragons team that successfully claimed the World Cup Challenge in 2011 with a win over Wigan, where he scored the match-winning try.
Featherstone, who finished fifth last season, described the signing of the goalkicking hooker as a ‘massive coup for a championship club’.
“Featherstone Rovers are delighted to have signed Cameron King,” general manager Davide Longo told the Featherstone club website.
“He’s a quality player in a key position for us and he offers a vast amount of experience that will help the other members of the squad.”
King took to social media in November posting an advertisement for his playing services in a post that went viral.
Featherstone’s new coach, Australian Ryan Carr, pounced.
“He is a very talented hooker with plenty of NRL experience, and will be a huge asset for us at Featherstone this year,” Carr said.
“Having known Cameron personally for quite a few years, I know what a great person he is to have in a club. His work ethic and commitment are extremely professional and he will bring great leadership both on and off the field.
“He has played in a lot of quality NRL systems from a young age and still has a lot of great footy ahead of him so I'm excited to be working with him and having him at our club for the upcoming season.”
