Kissick is awaiting approval to become a jockey manager as he continues to work on his comeback from a broken back.

Kissick has not ridden since October 2016 when a steer-riding accident ruined his promising career in the saddle.

The 27-year-old had originally hoped to be back riding trackwork by now but continues to be troubled by issues with his back.

Kissick has an appointment with a specialist on February 1, which he hopes can help him get closer to a return.

“I’ve been passed by the doctor to ride trackwork but Racing NSW want me to see the specialist that did my surgery, which is fair enough,” Kissick said.

“I’m definitely keen to come back but I’ve still got a few issues with my back. Every physio I’ve seen says I’ll get back to riding for sure, there’s just a point in my upper back that flares up and won’t let me do what I want to. I don’t have any pain in the area that I had surgery on.

“I definitely want to ride again. I’m not giving up.”

Kissick, at the time of his injury, was one of the most promising young jockeys in the country.

He spent 12 months of his apprenticeship with Chris Waller in Sydney and then returned to Wagga where he won his second and third Southern District Racing Association (SDRA) jockey’s premiership.

In the meantime, Kissick will continue working for a couple of Wagga stables, while looking to establish himself as a jockey manager.

He has secured Tiffany Jeffries as his first jockey and hopes to add Belinda Wright and Stacey Metcalfe.
