They are now one point behind the Bulls after a 26-run victory at Rawlings Park Turf on Saturday.
Coach Justin Ward thought it was a massive win for the club.
“It’s one to stay in touch with Lake and (Kooringal) Colts,” Ward said. “It was a very important one.”
Beck Frostick (56) and Brendan Gale (51) continued their strong form with the bat to set up the win.
They put on 115 runs for the second wicket.
Ryan Forsyth (18) was the only other Saints batsmen to reach double figures.
Saints lost 8-46 when Frostick became the first of three victims for Lachy Skelly, and despite their total of 9-16,7 being enough, the poor finish to the innings is somewhat of a concern.
“We still should have posted 170 plus but actually did well to claw our way to 170 so it is a little concerning,” Ward said.
Lake Albert lost wickets at fairly consistent intervals.
Especially after Dan Coates snared Jesse Hampton (33).
Ward thought it was crucial.
“They were cruising along at 1-80 so that was a big wicket that he got,” he said.
“The guys fielded well and we bowled good lengths which made a bit of a difference.”
Coates and Forsyth both picked up two wickets while Kyle Buckley was expensive but claimed three dismissals.
Alex Smeeth picked up four wickets for the Bulls in his return to bowling after a neck issue.
