Hundreds of happy spectators flocked from across the Snowy Mountains and Riverina regions, some even from interstate and overseas, to catch a glimpse of those competing in the quintessential outback spectacular.
Conditions were largely fair despite the hope for some light heat-breaking rain and it didn’t take long for festivities to get underway.
First cab off the rank was the Rodeo Slack segment at 9am with entrants trying their hand in the calf roping, breakaway roping, team roping, barrel racing, steer rides and poddy rides.
After a quick break for the light horse, the big boys and girls came out to play in the main program.
With results yet to be fully tallied after a long night’s competition, the overall winners are anyone’s guess but rodeo organiser Tim O’Brien already rates the 74th edition among his favourites.
“We had a pretty normal sized crowd, which is pretty good to see considering what a hot day we had,” O’Brien said.
“I’d say it’s probably around the same crowd size as last year. It’s been competitive out there and it’ll take a bit of time to get the results together. But yeah, it’s been good – busy, but good.”
