Making the trek was Cootamundra resident Barry Gavin and his family of three.
They arrived in the mid-afternoon yesterday to secure a prominent vantage point to revel in the second annual Skyworks, with the first display at 9.30pm.
Mr Gavin said these events reflected his usual New Year’s resolutions, centering around family.
“It’s a family event and family’s everything,” he said.
“A place for families to have fun and enjoy the fireworks.
“We normally go to Canberra, but we thought we’d have a change and come closer so we wouldn’t get home late.”
Despite the threat of thunderstorms, organisers did not consider cancellation.
“This is one of the biggest events in NSW, so logistically it takes a lot of effort and a lot of people doing different things,” committee member Chris Moane said.
“We had showers and wind blew about 30 knots for about half an hour...but it all came together very well.”
The event also raised funds for Wagga charity Country Hope.
“They’re volunteers who have done a huge amount of work as well, so we’re hoping we can give them a substantial amount,” Mr Moane said.
Other attendees included the Leeton Lions Club, who provided a train ride for kids.
Event goers have been kept entertained with live music and plenty of food offerings, which included Wagga providers such as Roll Viet and others from out of town.
DJ Liquorish will continue the party at 10pm until midnight where another fireworks display will welcome 2019.
