The Riverina police has praised residents for jumping onboard the ‘Feed A Farmer’ program to support farmers doing it tough this Christmas.

Wagga police Inspector Adrian Telfer said the response had been “fairly overwhelming”.
“We’ve had a number of items given to us to pass on to our farmers in need,” Inspector Telfer said.
“This has been a very short turnaround – we made this appeal only 12–14 days ago and it just goes to show that the country spirit is still alive in this town.”
Inspector Telfer and other officers donated the items to the Riverina RFS on Fernleigh Road as a central distribution centre.
“This is an initiative by NSW Police and all emergency services involved,” Inspector Telfer said.
“We’ve certainly played our part and certainly the media were really pivotal in helping us to encourage people to come forward and they certainly have done that.
“We have a huge amount of food and items to deliver – we hope they reach the farmers in time for Christmas, so they can enjoy it with their families.”
Wagga, Temora, Junee, Cootamundra and Tumut police stations all participated in the food drive.
The initiative has been supported by the region’s emergency services in partnership with Foodbank NSW/ACT.
