Down from previous years at Wagga’s Music Bowl, this year’s event saw 1500 turn out.
Able to accommodate crowds of up to 5000, plans are in the works for its return to the Music Bowl next year.
Regardless of the numbers, enthusiasm was not dampened, according to Kapooka Army Band leader Major Lindsay Mee.
“The crowd was very responsive, getting into the songs very nicely. It was a very good night,” said Major Mee.
The performance at the Victory Memorial Gardens on Saturday night was the culmination of a week’s rehearsals, after choosing the song list no more than three weeks ago.
As usual, Kapooka’s musicians led the carols which consisted of a variety of new and traditional tunes.
A Louis Armstrong jazz memory led by Wagga local Josh McKellar formed Major Mee’s particular favourite for the evening.
"I probably enjoyed Zat You, Santa [Claus] the best, it has a great jazz feel to it,” Major Mee said.
