The seven-year-old will line-up for his 106th consecutive start when he contests the Laser Electrical Benchmark 58 Handicap (900m) at Albury on Saturday.
Benno’s Boy had his first start for Sutherland on January 16, 2016 and has raced every month, bar one, since that day, earning about $150,000 in prizemoney along the way.
“I call him the dole cheque,” Sutherland laughed.
“He gets a cheque every week.
“These days I keep him fresh, keep him to sprints and it’s quite effective.”
Sutherland said Benno’s Boy enjoys stable life so much that he has not needed a spell.
“He loves it,” he said.
“There’s no reason to put him out. He’s 100 per cent sound, I’ve never had to do a thing to him and he holds his condition. I don’t do a lot with him but he loves it, and he’s racing as good as ever.
“I reckon he’ll get to 200 starts.”
Benno’s Boy has 122 starts to his name in total, for 12 wins and 34 minor placings.
He was at his best at Wagga on Tuesday when a close second behind stablemate Oh What A Thief in the Open Handicap (1000m).
Sutherland is confident he will go close again at Albury.
“He enjoys it a little bit soft these days so he will be hard to beat,” he said.
Sutherland will take four horses to Albury and believes Yawkey Way and Kappy Cino will also appreciate the soft going.
The Albury track was rated a soft seven on Friday morning.
