The majority of the 79 calls to the unit related to roof damage, water inundation and trees down.
Deputy unit commander of the Wagga SES Jason McDonell said over the past 24 hours crews from The Rock, Junee and Temora assisted with the storm.
“At Kooringal Road, Marshalls Creek was trapped by a fallen tree and the SES were assisted by NSW Fire and Rescue to clear that road,” Mr McDonell said.
“We also had trees caught in power lines and Essential Energy helped with that job.”
Mr McDonell said he was unaware whether Wagga’s major department centres were affected, but said Thompson Street between the Marketplace and Sturt Mall flooded.
“The street did get a little bit flooded and we’re reminding people not to drive through flooded water,” he said.
“Drivers and residents need to take it easy, if the road looks to deep don’t ride or drive through the flood water.”
Since 9am on Thursday, December 13, Wagga has seen rainfall of 21.2 millimeters.
BoM’s prediction for Friday’s weather is a top of 25 degrees, with a 50 per cent chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm.
Severe thunderstorms crossed the east coast of NSW and since Thursday afternoon, NSW SES crews attended over 675 jobs, with majority in Wagga and Albury.
BoM said that no flooding is now expected on the Tumut River.
The river peaked last night below flood categorization at 9pm and is now falling.
Based on the prediction provided by BoM it is expected that conditions will remain below flood levels however further heavy rain later today is possible.
People in areas along the Tumut River and its tributaries should remain cautious of rapid river rises associated with further rain.
Those camping along the river should monitor river conditions and be prepared to move quickly if needed.
