Nick and Kate Shepherd bought the vineyard about three months ago and plan to reopen the renovated winery about February with a brand new name – The Wild Vine.
“For the first few years, we really just want to concentrate on functions and events – anything from weddings and corporate training days to wine tastings and entertainment,” Mr Shepherd said.
“We’d also really like to concentrate on doing some live music and Jazz out in the vines – with places like the Home and the Saloon closing that used to support local musicians, there’s not too many places around doing it anymore.”
Once they are established as a go-to option for events, Mr Shepherd said they want to help contribute to Wagga’s growing food and wine tourism industry.
“There’s a lot going on in Wagga with the strawberry farm, the cherry farm, Food I Am, and those sorts of places,” he said.
“So if we could add to that down the track and help promote Wagga as a place for foodies, there’s no reason it can’t be the next Hunter Valley.”
