Byatt linked with Albury when the Greens went into recess ahead of the 2018 and despite their return in the Murray Cup this week he has no plans to play for his hometown yet.
“I’ll stay with Albury this year and have a few more years in Group Nine left in me yet I think,” Byatt said.
The 29-year-old was a Country representative two years ago and is more than happy to stick with the Thunder.
However he’s thrilled the Greens have found a new avenue to keep rugby league alive in the town.
“They’ve got back in a comp and can get a bit of football up there now which will be good,” Byatt said.
“They have to start somewhere and I think it will be a good comp for them with all the local fellas. Hopefully all the boys get around it.”
Byatt still lives in Tumbarumba and believes there is a good feeling within the town.
“A few of them just aren’t up to that Group Nine level so they’re really happy to be able to go into that comp and will enjoy themselves hopefully,” he said.
He’s looking for better things to come at Albury in the second season under Adrian Purtell.
Marred by close losses last season, the Thunder have been busy on the recruitment front including picking up Sabastian Rapana this week who will join Byatt in the centres.
