Be part of history on Saturday December 22 at the last Wagga Harness Racing Club meeting at the showground.
The club is set to move to the new track at Cartwrights Hill and will start racing there next year.
“It’s the last meeting here and we want to farewell the complex,” Wagga Harness Racing Club chief executive officer Graeme White said.
“A lot of people would remember the glory days when there were multiple book makers and big crowds before advent of Sky Racing.
It will be a historic night with many people trying to win the last race ever held at the showgrounds
- Wagga Harness Racing Club chief executive officer Graeme White
“There is a lot of sentimental attachment to the showground for a lot of people especially the older generation.”
Some of the more noteworthy events at the track include the dual-code race meets held with the greyhounds and the biggest meet in the past 10 years was the world driver series which saw the best drivers in the world race in Wagga.
Entry into the last race meet at the showground is free.
There will be a Christmas ham raffle and play on wheels for the children.
The first race will be at 6.30pm with gates opening at 5.30pm. Racing will commence at the new track at Cartwrights Hill in February 2019 with the official opening planned for March 2019.
“It’s a first-class facility that will bring the public into the world of harness racing,” Mr White said.
