Denbigh Burrows from Wagga has been named as a Royal Agricultural Society of NSW 2019 Rural Achievers.
Dr Burrows has been working alongside charity groups to organise school and community mental health events in Wagga, something he wants to continue.
He founded the Wagga Rural UNSW Medical Society and has worked with the Riverina Bluebell mental health charity while studying.
Dr Burrows organised school and community mental health events in Wagga and helped to education more than 700 young men, their families and friends about when and where to seek professional help for mental health issues.
Dr Burrows was also involved in a community event for drought affected areas of West Wyalong and Lake Cargelligo.
Having grown up on a farm in Victoria, Dr Burrows began to seriously consider medicine after breaking his collarbone while playing football.
He will begin working as a junior medical officer at Wagga Base Hospital in January.
