Charlotte Priest (junior sportswoman), Jamie Mooney (junior sportsman), Brandy Nicholson (senior sportswoman) and Angus Grigg (senior sportsman) were rewarded for stellar years by winning Sportsperson of the Year awards.
Priest represented the school in AFL, athletics, basketball, cross country, diving, orienteering, swimming and touch. She also received a sports distinction award for athletics, cross country and diving.
Mooney represented Mater Dei in AFL, athletics, basketball, cross country, rugby league, rugby union, swimming and water polo. He received sports distinction awards in AFL, athletics, cross country and swimming.
Nicholson represented Mater Dei in AFL, athletics, basketball, cricket, cross country, football, hockey, leaguetag, softball, swimming and water polo. She represented the diocese in four of those sports, going on to compete at the NSW All Schools Championships in swimming and athletics.
Grigg starred throughout the year in diving, finishing fifth at the national championships in Perth, but also represented the school in athletics, cricket, cross country and tennis.
Mater Dei were also pleased to present All Rounder awards to 40 students, who had represented the school in five or more sports throughout the course of the year.
Mikaela Cole was presented with the Pierre de Coubertin award.
Mater Dei also presented Blue awards to 13 students, while two students received Bar status and another five reached Outstanding Achievement level.
Mater Dei sports coordinator Nathan Irvine said it was another ‘very successful’ year in sport for the College.
