It’s every junior soccer star’s dream to play on a world-class pitch and this weekend will see that dream realised for a very lucky crew.
Mater Dei Primary’s girls side were unstoppable during their Sydney FC Cup tournament earlier in the year, going through undefeated and conceding just one goal, and earned the right to play at half time during Sydney FC’s A-League clash with Wellington Phoenix at Jubilee Stadium on Saturday, December 8.
They’ll combine with the South Wagga boys for a friendly game in front of a packed stadium and Mater Dei captain Amity Wood is raring to go.
“We won five games to get the win … and I think it’ll be great,” Amity said.
It’ll be a maiden A-League experience for more than half the team, many of whom are Sydney FC fans, and the girls are already planning their goal celebrations.
Football Wagga development officer Liam Dedini said it was an exciting opportunity for both teams to experience top level football.
“The players will ... be taken for a tour of the stadium and taken into the sheds to see the pre-game set up,” Dedini said.
The players and their parents will then be given tickets to watch the game before taking the field at half time to play a small sided game on the main pitch as the half time entertainment.”
