For people experiencing mental ill health and substance use issues, this time of year can make people feel worse, according to Murrumbidgee Local Health District’s drug and alcohol clinical nurse consultant Martina Greenaway.
In the spirit of the 12 Days of Christmas, the MLHD has provided the some Christmas tips:
- Stick to your budget
- Set boundaries
- Don’t shop ’til you drop – avoid the crowds and added stress
- Avoid the pressure cooker feeling of stress building up, share the load with your friends
- Manage your expectations – Christmas is “one day”, so prepare and plan ahead
- Everything in moderation
- Get out and about – continue your regular exercise regime
- Don’t overdo it – take time out to rest and relax
- Don’t be a stranger: keep in contact with close friends and reach out when you need help
- Reflect on the year just gone and look forward to the New year
- Pay it forward, perhaps by volunteering for others, and
