Bolton thought about retiring, but his decision to play on has certainly been justified.
The 38-year-old has scored two centuries in the past three matches and when you add in two half centuries from earlier in the season he’s has been a big part of the side’s success so far.
With a young family, Bolton wanted to make sure he was playing cricket for the right reasons.
“I wanted to make sure I was still playing cricket because I enjoyed it not because it is what I’ve always done,” Bolton said.
“I want to finish playing cricket while I’m still enjoying it and perhaps I haven’t enjoyed it as much over the last couple of years.
“I wanted to make sure this year was enjoyable.”
Bolton is the competition’s leading runscorer with 355 runs at 59.17 and the runs are definitely making for a enjoyable experience.
“I’m pretty happy with how things are going at the moment,” Bolton said.
“I’ve had a bit of luck in all those innings but sometimes you just need a bit of luck.”
He’s hoping for another good contribution when the Colts take on ladder leading Wagga City on Saturday.
Kooringal are fourth but are yet to down a side ahead of them on the ladder.
Bolton is hoping the side can rise to the challenge at Harris Park.
“It’s a good opportunity to play one of the best teams,” he said.
“We’ve played some pretty good cricket this year but there has been some times in the games we’ve lost that we’ve made some little errors that could have made the game come out a little differently.
“But the guys are working pretty hard at training and enjoying their cricket at the moment so it is an exciting challenge on the weekend.”
Wagga City come into the clash off a draw with South Wagga but are yet to taste defeat.
