Greg Adamson was driving through Barellan when he passed a mobile speed camera without first being warned by signs.

Upon investigation, he noticed two speed camera signs he believes were hidden by shade and a guide post.

While Mr Adamson “appreciates the value and recognises the need” for these cameras, he is disgusted by what he sees as a “greedy” contractor.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), while not confirming the placement of these signs was indeed misconduct by the contractor, said in NSW “mobile speed cameras are not deployed covertly.”

“What infuriates me is that on this occasion a rogue operator, who is motivated by financial reward has decided to flout regulations – and for what, greed?” Mr Adamson asked.

RMS say they conduct audits to “ensure the vendor is meeting contractual requirements,” the spokeswoman said.

However Mr Adamson thinks these contractors “should be answering some serious questions to keep our roads safe”.

With a property fronting the Burley Griffin Way just up the road in Ardlethan, he says cars are always speeding through the 50km/h zone, and says Barellan would be no different.

“Given that this year there have been deaths only a few hundred metres from my property, I see the need for speed to be monitored along that road,” Mr Adamson said.

“Incidents like this put the whole road safety program in question – where else is this occurring?”
