Tough Monarch is sixth in the trotters standings after he backed up a third at Melton with a fourth at Ballarat on Tuesday.
He’s drawn nine in the third round of heats at Cranbourne on Saturday.
Alchin continues to be pleased with his progress.
“He raced really, really big,” Alchin said.
“I’m really happy with him and couldn’t be happier with both his runs.”
Village Witch has some work to do, currently 19th in the rankings for pacers.
The top 12 in both division qualify with the Young-owned pacer eight points behind Cash N Flow in the last qualifying position.
She’s drawn seven for trainer-driver Jason Grimson after a sixth and eighth so far.
