High Mode qualified for the feature race with a win in the Riverina Cup (3800m) at Wagga in August.
Trainer Anthony Freedman sent the stayer to the paddock with the intention to tackle the $300,000 Jericho Cup (4600m) at Warrnambool.
The plan came off as High Mode ($8.00) raced away for an impressive three length win on Sunday.
Clayton Douglas rode High Mode to victory.
Thunder Road, who finished third in the Riverina Cup, also made the field and battled on to run 10th for Goulburn trainers Emma and Lucy Longmire.
Next year’s Riverina Cup will be held at Murrumbidgee Turf Club on August 11. It is also the grand final for the Wagga Stayers Series.
