Two strong batting performances saw the points split at McPherson Oval with neither team looking like coming away victorious.
South Wagga added 30 runs to their overnight total from four overs, setting Wagga City 283 for victory on Saturday.
After picking up Josh Thompson (10) early, the Blues looked a chance when Harry Rosengren (26) and Tom Burge (32) departed in consecutive overs after drinks to see them slip to 3-74 before Jon Nicoll and Ben Turner saw the Cats out of any danger.
Turner was unbeaten on 78 with Nicoll at the other end on 48 when played finished with the Wagga City at 3-207.
Nicoll was thrilled with the teenage’s performance after coming up the batting order.
“He was outstanding and did really well,” Nicoll said.
“He got an opportunity, with Aaron Maxwell unavailable for the second week of the game, to bat in the first five and he was magic.
“He played really well and it will be a good confidence builder for him as he’s put a lot of work in playing second and first grade and got a good result.”
Captain Jeremy Rowe used all 11 South Wagga players with the ball as they tried to break the partnership.
However despite the numerous attempts the breakthrough wasn’t forthcoming.
Rowe admitted it was a flat finish to the match.
“We definitely finished the game thinking we did everything we could to win,” Rowe said.
“Our fields were incredibly attacking.”
Looking to add 30 runs in the first three to five overs of day two, Rowe was pleased with how the day started off.
However they couldn’t deliver the big points rush.
“We were really happy with that little section of the game, it achieved exactly what we wanted to achieve, and certainly didn’t put the total out of reach.
“With 71 overs to get 280 odd we certainly left the game in a live situation.”
It leaves unbeaten Wagga City three points ahead at the top of the ladder.
The draw backed up another big performance by the Cats in the Twenty20 on Friday night.
Thompson (56) and Nicoll (66 not out) fired at the top of the order, putting on 83 for the first wicket partnership.
Thompson was the aggressor, with his innings coming off 29 balls.
Wagga City finished at 7-159 before having Lake Albert 6-45 with Nicoll snaring three wickets.
