Football Wagga is set to prioritise improved facilities and referee numbers in 2019 after ushering in a new board at last week’s annual general meeting.

Incumbent president Tony Dobbin will again front the governing body with operations manager David Merlino, development officer Liam Dedini and referee manager Jason McKenzie also reprising their roles.
The vacant position of secretary was finally filled by Mark Stephens while Ian Hardinge’s former planning and development portfolio was filled by Wagga City Wanderers director Brendan Flanagan.
In a statement, newly appointed marketing and media manager Tim Barter said the board was hoping to press forward with its key goals.
“Over the last four years, we have increased our player numbers from 2000 to 3000, while over the same period there have been no increase in playing fields or amenities for our members,” Barter said.
“(The) other major issue we need to tackle is referee numbers.
“Football Wagga are desperate to attract any ex players or in fact anyone interested in joining the ranks of our referees.
“It’s a fabulous way to stay fit and stay involved in our great sport.”
