This year, the Wagga Sri Lankan Community Association’s annual cultural show was hosted at Henschke Primary School where various performances and displays wowed the crowd.
President Sampath Hathurusighe said it was a successful event with people from across the region attending.
“It’s an event that allows us to pass on traditions and customs to our kids and the next generations,” Mr Hathurusighe said.
“We showed that Sri Lanka has diversity and history in its traditions.
“It was a very colourful night with various performances.”
This year’s theme was Culture and Rhythm Rejoice.
The children who performed were also awarded with prizes.
Mr Hathurusighe said the event has grown over previous editions, with more than 120 people from Wagga this year.
“As well, the Sri Lankan community from Griffith came,” he said.
“I thank the primary school for allowing us to host it and thanks to all the community members for their support,” Mr Hathurusighe said.
Among those in attendance was Minister Chandana Weerasena from the Sri Lankan High Commission in Canberra.
The next major event on the association’s calendar is Vesak or Bhudda Day on May 19, 2019.
“We’ll celebrate the birth, life and death of Lord Buddha,” Mr Hathurusighe said.
“It’s opened to all cultures in Wagga.”
