Proudly wearing the 18th athletics medal she has won this year, the Sacred Heart Primary School student had already fulfilled a dream just by getting to the Australian primary school championships in Melbourne.
Ferguson, 12, has cerebral palsy. When she took up running four years ago, she was challenged to get to nationals by the time she was 14.
Achieving that two years early, the athlete inspired by Carly Salmon capped it with her third in the 12-years girls multi-class discus, throwing 15.88m.
She also ran personal bests in her 100m (18.61s) and 200m (39.89s) and featured in a composite NSW/ACT relay team.
Jasmine said she still gets nervous before events but just loves the sport since she took it up in the backyard.
Her next target is the little athletics zone championships at Jubilee Park on Sunday, where she’ll run for the Kooringal club.
Meanwhile, Sturt Public School sprinter Charlie Harper finished an impressive fourth in the 10 years boys 200m final.
Harper won his heat in 28.15s and then clocked 28.02 in the final to finish just outside a medal.
