Williams – Batlow’s first ever Wallaroo and Olympic gold medallist – will lead the women’s side into battle alongside Wagga’s Alicia Quirk and shared a unique training technique they’ve employed to acclimatise to the sweltering conditions expected in the United Arab Emirates with rugby.com.au.
“It’s been a really good preparation for us,”
“Obviously with the heat we’ve been doing a fair bit of heat chamber sort of things in at Rugby Australia.

“We’ve been in the heat room doing a rower and a bike session so that’s really prepared us well.
“It’s also given that knowledge to the younger girls like our debutants who are here to really let loose and show Australia what they’re about … it’s a really great opportunity for them and I’m so stoked for them.”
Williams said it would take a collective effort to see the girls in gold come out on top in Dubai.
“I could name all the girls who need to be able to out there and perform but it’s a team effort and if we’re not performing as a team, we’re not going to be able to go out in win, so it’s about us going out there and showcasing what Australian women’s sevens are about,” she said.
