A congenital condition that caused her hip and femur to be underdeveloped at birth means that every step for Mia is a challenge.
But with the help of the ever-generous Wagga community, the family has now secured the $300,000 needed to proceed with surgery in the United States.
Mia’s mother Leila Bright cannot speak highly enough of the support the family has received since the fundraising campaign commenced in 2016.
“I do not have enough thanks to give to Wagga,” she said yesterday.
The surgery to rebuild Mia’s body to the point where a prosthetic will provide greater movement is complex and carries a three-month recovery period.
We wish Mia and her family all the best on the next stage of “Mia’s big adventure”.
Finally, congratulations to the seven Miss Wagga 2019 entrants who have poured their hearts and minds into the quest this year.
At the crowning ceremony on Saturday it was remarkable to see the transformation in each of the seven young women from earlier in the year.
For five of the entrants their Miss Wagga journey has ended, but they should each be exceedingly proud of what they have achieved.
For our new Miss Wagga Stina Constantine and Community Princess Presslea Cowan, their involvement will continue throughout 2019.
Good luck to both women as they continue on the good work of 2018 Miss Wagga Zoe Martin and Community Princess Maddie Smith.
All the best for the week ahead,
Ross
