Wagga Wagga Athletics Club have celebrated another successful opens carnival after welcoming more than 250 competitors to their 2018 installment over the weekend.

Junior and open athletes from across the Riverina, ACT and Victoria flocked to Jubilee Park on Sunday to test themselves against some of regional Australia’s best young talent.
Club president Hamish Wheatley said there was strong attendance across the age groups.

“We had plenty there on Saturday, right from our Tiny Tots up to under 17s and opens as well.
“We’re very happy with how it all went.”
The highlight of the carnival came in the form of 12-year-old field athlete Hayley Whitsed, who recorded 17.12m in the javelin final to easily break the pre-existing record of 16.36m.
