Teacher Megan Weidemann said students donated a gold coin and about $150 will be raised for the Cancer Council.
“There’s probably 160 kids and you can see from their faces, amongst all that colour, that they’re enjoying it,” she said.
“The students are reflecting on their four years of schooling so far and as they go around, they’re reflecting the friends they made in Year 7 and the support they’ve received and how it has progressed.
“Hopefully it will forge memories for them when many of them will go out into the big-wide-world after Year 10, however major of them will stay and go into Years 11 and 12.
“This will forge their relationships that they will need to support each other through their senior years,” she said.
This morning’s rain cleared in time for the colour run, which turned the school’s oval into a sea of colour as students walked in a circle passing four stations each time.
About 25 students from the Year 10 cohort were undertaking work experience, but Ms Weidemann said she has been pleasantly surprised by those who have embraced the activity.
“It’s not also just the groups you’d think are doing it, it’s also groups that I haven’t seen in this particular environment who are really enjoying themselves,” she said.
Year 10 student Paige Gaynor, 16, was one of the students enjoying themselves.
“It’s great fun and just wonderful that the money raised is going to the Cancer Council because it’s a worthy cause and will help in prevention and research,” she said.
Paige’s friend Bridie Sheridan, 16, was also loving the colour and said she has been a part of a colour run before.
“I feel very multi-coloured and cancer is very prominent in Australia with the sun so it feels really good to be outdoors, wearing sunscreen and raising money,” Bridie said.
