The Wagga Motorcycle Sports Club is hosting a rec ride, including a stadium cross event under lights.
Their efforts to drum up support and interest have been given a huge boost by the burnout community with a dozen pro burnout cars headed to the venue to put on an exhibition and set to be a huge drawcard.
“We’ve had a lot of interest and a lot of people will go to watch the burnouts,” organiser Adam Beck said.
“There’s a burnout pad in the centre of the speedway. The pad’s not massive, but it’s good. It’s probably 15 years since they had burnouts out there.”
For the bikes, there is also a long track rec ride while a new stadium cross track will be in action.
“We’re trying to let people know we’ve got the track there and try to build the club up a bit, get people interested and the club going,” Beck said.
“We’ve built a new track inside the actual speedway so that gives people a few different options.
“A lot of people will be interested in the bikes but a lot of families will be happy to see the burnouts. There’s 12 to 15 burnout cars coming so that should get a few people out there and they can sit back on the hill and enjoy it.”
The Wagga Motorcycle Sports Club intends to have more rec ride nights in the summer holidays and is hoping to aim for a competitive stadium cross race meeting in the new year.
Gates open at 11am on Saturday, with riding from 1pm. The pro burnouts demos take place after 6pm. It’s a gold coin donation to enter.
