According to GrainCorp, harvest in the region is well under way and, despite the dry conditions, there have been pockets of good crop yields and quality
But, GrainCorp is warning, forecast rain could hamper harvest activities.
Nigel Smedley from the Bureau of Meteorology at Wagga, said Tuesday would likely see between one and five millimetres of rain, with between five and 10mm due on Wednesday.
The temperature is also set to tumble, with Thursday’s top expected to be just 17 degrees, well down on the long-term average of 26 degrees.
Friday’s temperature will be only marginally warmer, with a likely top of 19 degrees.
Alan Brown of the Wagga branch of NSW Farmers said the rain could damage any cereal crops that were fully ripened.
“It will probably damage wheat,” he said.
But, that same rain could be beneficial to summer lucerne crops, which could be baled for hay or fed to stock, which Mr Brown said will be much needed as the drought conditions linger.
