Runs were again hard to come by with the defence of both sides limiting the scoring of their opponent.
Turvey’s Sarah Carter was first to cross the plate when, after hitting safely to left field she was advanced to third by a Charli Hall right field hit and then scored by a Kalee Gibbons sacrifice fly.
Hall should have scored in like fashion on an Amanda Gooden fly, but a coach’s error led to Hall’s dismissal.
The next two half-innings were shutouts, but in the bottom of the second Nicola Tom opened the account for Saints when she was batted in by an Emily Weir play.
Turvey Park was shut out in the top of the third before a giant centre field home run from Rochelle Harley put the Saints in front.
Both sides went scoreless in their fourth and fifth innings with regulation dismissals by the fielding side.
Turvey Park regained the lead when, in the top of the sixth, Leila Wadley and Gooden were batted in by Jade Olsen.
It was then that Turvey pitcher, Paris Hall, took control K-2ing four of the next six batters, effectively shutting out the Saints in their last two digs.
Meanwhile, Turvey Park added another two runs in their final turn at bat with Charli McNaughton and Sarah Carter both scoring, leading to a 5-2 win for Turvey Park.
A highlight of the game was the debuts of youngsters, Charli Hall and Leila Wadley for Turvey Park and whilst not new to the top grade, equally young Jess Wild stood out for the Saints.
All three fielded effectively at left field taking fine catches and all three had a safe hit when batting.
Definitely players of the future.
Players are reminded that there is a general bye for all Wagga softball next Saturday.
