You might think you know how a particular day is going to pan out, but there is no way to predict what might happen on any given day.

As an editor, the things you can plan around - like council meetings, court cases and community events - are invaluable.

But it is always the story or stories you don't see coming that are the ones that stick with you.

Sadly, often these stories involve someone going through hardship. A crash, a crime, a natural disaster.

That was what was running through my mind on Wednesday morning when The DA's senior reporter Jody Lindbeck charged over to my desk, thrust her phone in front of me and said: "You have to watch this video."

So it was with great relief when that video turned out to be a clip on YouTube of a video game fanatic announcing to the world that one of the great gaming mysteries had been solved.

"Who starred as Barry Burton in the live action scenes of the phenomenally popular 1996 release Resident Evil?" is not, I must confess, a question I have ever asked.

But millions of people have, and once I learned the answer was "Former Wagga and Junee principal Greg Smith", you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.
