The launch of the anthology, called fourW twenty-nine, by the Booranga Writers’ Centre at CSU includes pieces by local, national and international writers.
The centre describes the latest edition, which is published yearly, as “stretching the boundaries of writing in multi-layered, allusive writing that engages, challenges, seduces”.
A writer who was published for the first time was Rebecca Forbes-Taber.
The writer, only 20 years old, said having her poetry published for the first time was “pretty cool”.
“My piece is based on a trip to Sydney and it’s about the different landscapes that you encounter around Sydney,” Ms Forbes-Taber said.
“I worked on that piece for a while – it takes a bit of time to edit things and perfect the language.”
She the anthology was “definitely a great way to support local writers”.
“Readers can pick up something that has really creative pieces in it,” she said.
Similarly, Booranga Writers’ Centre president David Gilbey said the event was an occasion to celebrate “the creativity of writers from this region and link them to the rest of Australian and overseas writing”.
“It’s good to have work from first-time writers,” Mr Gilbey said.
“There’s a particularly good rainbow-serpent poem by a Wiradjuri person.
“And for the first time, we’ve got a drama script as a poem.”
He described the 2018 edition as a richness of diversity.
At the launch, writers read their work from the publication
As part of the anthology, there are prizes for poetry and prose, which will be announced soon.
The Booranga Writers’ Centre will also launch the publication at Gleebooks in Sydney on November 24.
