But according to organisers of monster garage sale held in Wagga at the weekend, the fundraising efforts were boosted by co-operation of community groups and individuals.
In March, Wagga woman Beryl Wilson began an appeal to help residents who lost everything in the Tathra bushfires.
The response was overwhelming, with three shipping containers being filled with donations.
So the Wagga Men’s Shed came on board to help organise a massive garage sale and Rural Fire Service volunteers ran a barbecue.
“For the fellas from the Men’s Shed, it was just great day,” member Rick Priest said.
“That working together really made a big difference,” Wagga man Gary Gurtner, who also supported the fundraiser, said.
