Lake Albert Public School will host a quarter-final of the statewide Brian Taber Shield later this month hoping to qualify for the final four of the statewide primary school cricket competition.

The young Wagga cricketers will take on Eden Public School, from the NSW south coast, on November 26, hoping to make it three straight wins for a trip to Sydney.
After a big win against Deniliquin South first-up (when they dismissed the opposition for 27), Lake Albert travelled to Orange last week and enjoyed a seven-wicket win to secure their spot in the last eight of the NSW PSSA comp.
Alex Weightman (2/6 off four overs) led the attack as Lake Albert dismissed Orange for 82. Beau Edmonds also took two wickets before top scoring in the run-chase with 35. With Reuben McGill’s 28, the visitors reached the target with a couple of overs to spare.
“Our strength is we’ve got a pretty consistent bowling line-up. and then our top six or seven batsmen are pretty strong,” coach Mark Crittenden said.
Edmonds and Weightman are Riverina representatives but the school’s success is down to teamwork.
“They’ve been fantastic. They celebrate each other’s success and they’re just a nice group that really get along,” Crittenden said.
“Our fielding’s really improved, which is important. We’ve got a couple of run-outs in the last game and they just keep things tight.”
Lake Albert’s quarter final will be at home to Eden, who qualified with a one-run win on Tuesday, after posting a big total of 125.
The match on Monday week will be at Mark Taylor Oval. The Brian Taber Shield semi-finals and final are in Sydney on December 4.
