A 77-year-old man sustained neck pain while a 76-year-old woman sustained cervical and shoulder injuries.
“Both were taken and were in serious but stable conditions,” the spokesperson said.
The third person involved was not injured.
The cause of the two-car accident is not yet determined.
One of two southbound lanes on the Hume Highway at Gundagai South continues to be closed.
RMS, a tow truck and emergency services are still at the scene.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, reduce speed and exercise caution.
Earlier: One of two southbound lanes on the Hume Highway has been closed after a two-car accident at Gundagai South.
The incident is about 4km south of Sheridan Street, Gundagai, and began after 9.30am today.
Emergency services, including Gundagai SES, were called to the scene.
In a statement, Gundagai SES said the incident has caused traffic to be backed up.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said two ambulance crews were also called to the site.
There are currently no further information about injuries.
Motorists are advised to reduce their speed and exercise caution near the incident.
Live Traffic NSW has listed the traffic conditions surrounding the incident as moderate.
