The Mark Wade-coached outfit defied the elements and a vastly improved AKW Jets side on Tuesday night to score a vital 5-4 win in the wet at Jubilee Park, keeping their unbeaten streak intact.
Young Guns now have six wins on the trot and look short odds to bag their maiden premiership after producing another measured performance.
In what marked the third contest between Young Guns and Jets since last season’s decider, it was the former who proved faster off the mark.
Gabby O’Connell, Olivia Frazier, Caitlin Kelly and Breanna Frazier did the damage early on, scoring a try apiece to put Jets on the back foot.

However, Kevin Salmon’s side were more than up to the task with Phoebe Duncombe, Cathy Salmon and Georgia Caroll pegging scores back for the defending premiers before half time.
Young Guns entered the main break with a slender 4-3 advantage but any hope of an expansive second half was drowned out as the heavens opened over Wagga.
Rain bucketed down as errors plagued both sides before speedsters Vienna Randal and Molly McCrone traded tries late in the piece to set up a thrilling final minute’s play.
Jets fought hard to find an equaliser but solid defence won out for Young Guns, who wound down the clock to see out another tight victory.
Cathy Salmon paid tribute to her rivals after the game.
“We were missing a few players, but they were just too good in the end,” she said.
Across the paddock, Farmers Home Hotel managed to claw back a 2-1 half time deficit to force a 4-all draw with Don Tuckwell’s Audio.
Michelle Forrell scored the equaliser for Farmers after second half tries to Sophie Thomson and Madeline Morton pulled the purple team back from the brink.
Bailey Porter, Milly Lucas, Beck Lally and Sammy-Jo Charles scored for Tuckies in the draw.
In the men’s competition, The Casuals had their winning streak rocked by a plucky Quolls outfit, who forced a 6-all draw in miserable miserable conditions.
Meanwhile, MJR Electrics finally broke through for their maiden win of the season, edging Advanced Communications Cobras 5-3.
