The 16-year-old flyer was a standout during the Lions’ charmed run from wooden spooners to grand finalists and headlines a bolstered list for the junior Wanderers.
Under 18s coach Andrew Mason was pleased to see Hislop finally join their ranks.
“We’ve been chatting for about eight months now and I was hoping he’d be available for last season,” Mason said.
“It couldn’t happen then but we’ve had a chat and spoken with his parents and he’s trialled this time around and I think he’ll fit into the squad really well.
“Obviously we haven’t finalised the squad yet but I’d say he’s a good chance of making the final cut.”
Hislop’s eye-catching form in the Pascoe Cup was duly noted but Mason will expect even more from the fleet-footed teenager in the State League cauldron.
“He’s played a Pascoe Cup grand final at just 16-years-old, but you don’t want to be sitting back in twenty years and saying ‘what if’ after that.”
“You want to be developing and growing as a player and that’s what we’re trying to do here with Pat and these other boys.
“It’s about exposing them to a higher level and creating a pathway that helps players.”
