Around 3:30am on Sunday, crews were called to Hunter Street in Mount Austin.
It took half-an-hour to subdue the blaze and contain any leaking fluids.
By which time, another car had been set alight just four kilometres down the road.
At 4:35 am the same crew was dispatched to Willang Crescent in Glenfield Park, to contain a second separate car fire.
Police are currently investigating whether the incidences may have been linked.
It is not yet known whether the vehicles had been reported stolen at the time of the fires.
Turvey Park fire station has kept a rolling tally of this year’s car fires. Including the previous night’s activity, it brings the tentative total to 90 this year.
With roughly eight car fires per month, this year’s numbers are on track to meeting previous year’s alarming statistics.
It is estimated that for the past two years, Turvey Park firefighters have subdued in excess of a hundred car blazes per 12 month period.
