Food for Fines will run from November 26 until December 22 this year, after which the collected food will be distributed to families in need across the region.
Wagga Library manager Claire Campbell said the library has been getting involved with this great initiative for more than 20 years now.
“During that time, thousands of boxes of food have been collected,” Ms Campbell said.
“The food is distributed by a local charity to individuals and families, across the region, who need some extra help with their groceries over the Christmas holidays.
“I would encourage everyone to bring some non-perishable food into the library even if you don’t have any library fines.”
The Food for Fines program is also offered across the Riverina Regional Libraries’ 17 other branches.
